First cohort of program participants starting work as IT professionals this month
BROOKLYN, N.Y., Jan. 19, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Project Elevate is a collaboration between PeopleShores and Morgan Stanley to help elevate underserved talent in economically and socially challenged neighborhoods with technology skills and practical experience to advance their career opportunities. The companies created a Technical Talent Development and Impact Sourcing Technology Center in Brooklyn, New York, designed to educate, employ and empower participants by providing work experience that will propagate and create a positive multiplier effect in the community while providing valuable technology development services for Morgan Stanley. The first cohort of the program started work as IT professionals last week.
Mickey Austin, PeopleShores CEO, said: "We are experiencing a growing interest across the U.S. for high-value workforce solutions that also open the door to sustainable careers and community economic development. Our relationship with Morgan Stanley is significant because it helps us take the first step, with such an iconic company, in our objective to open other centers and impact communities across all the boroughs of New York City. This truly demonstrates the power of business and impact sourcing working together to benefit deserving people and communities."
Project Elevate participants were selected based on their potential, personal interests and motivation – not their current occupation. The program begins with foundational training which includes soft skills, leadership skills and basic technical skills, and is followed by extensive technical training that covers critical and transferrable technology skills. The program concludes with 12 months of work experience in the Technology division at Morgan Stanley with participants having the opportunity to convert to full-time employees after that.
"As a global leader in financial services, we have a responsibility to the communities in which we live and work. This initiative demonstrates our commitment to that responsibility and to upholding our firm's core values, particularly our focus on fostering diversity and inclusion," said Chris Andrews, Global Chief Operating Officer, Institutional Securities Technology at Morgan Stanley. "This innovative program will provide participants with in-demand technology skills and access to sustainable careers while developing an exciting pipeline of future talent for Morgan Stanley."
