CHICAGO, Dec. 20, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- 1943 was a very good year for Chicago, the Bears won the NFL Championship and Pizzeria Uno opened on the corner of Ohio and Wabash streets, marking the invention of the deep dish pizza. On December 10th, the iconic Chicago restaurant Pizzeria Uno opened its doors to an invitation only party to celebrate the 75th birthday of the restaurant and their invention of the deep-dish pizza in 1943. Uno's Managing Partner April Gavin and her staff welcomed Chicago dignitaries like famed Chicago cultural historian Tim Samuelson, and long-time customers and staff alum as well as original suppliers like Anichini Brothers Meats. Guests enjoyed the festive celebration with libations, appetizers, and of course, the amazing Chicago deep-dish pizza the restaurant is famous for. The party was also attended by VIP guest Mr. Aaron Spencer, who in 1978 partnered with founder Ike Sewel to bring deep dish pizza outside Chicago, opening Uno restaurants around the world. Mr. Spencer told stories about his friendship with Ike and talked about the history of Pizzeria Uno and how it came to be what it is today. Also, in attendance was VIP guest Jim Ilaria, CEO of the company who spoke about his deep rooted family ties to the city of Chicago and his love of deep dish pizza. He also spoke about the company today and it's future and proudly announce the opening of the newest Uno restaurant in India this past November.
Mr. Tim Samuelson entertained guests with stories about the original location of the restaurant in the River North section of Chicago and the origins of the deep dish pizza at Uno's and its cultural impact on Chicago. Mr. Samuelson celebrated the occasion and said of Uno's birthday, "Every person who ever cooked a pizza, served a table, made this a place that is like home for many people and has kept that feeling for 75 years. That doesn't happen very often." Pizzeria Uno was opened in 1943 and still stands in the original location in the Victorian mansion on the corner of Wabash and Ohio in the heart of Sweet Home Chicago.
April Gavin Managing Partner of Uno's presented the Lakeview Pantry, the chosen non-profit, with a check of $7,500. Ms. Gavin says of the birthday donation, "Pizzeria Uno is proud to be part of the Chicago community for 75 years. We can think of no better way to celebrate our 75th Birthday than to share some deep dish pizza with you, while giving back to the city of Chicago". The celebration concluded with Ms. Gavin and her team leading guests singing Happy Birthday with a deep dish with candles with sparkling "75" candles.
