The key goal of the Action Now program is to put the UN SDGs on the local and global agenda by developing a program with more significant relevance for future development, both regionally and globally, through partnerships with international companies, sports clubs, program ambassadors and sponsors.
"It is important that we as a sports club make wise choices and work in a direction that means that we have a planet that lives for the generations to come," Bodø Glimt CEO, Frode Thomassen said. "We saw the opportunity to be a first-mover in Norwegian football (and in Europe as well) and wanted to take the lead in important work for the whole society, and become a communication platform for companies and other actors who want to tell their good sustainable stories – take lead in future development."
The program is a sustainable hub for business partners and society and has five components:
1. All Bodø Glimt home games have a match partner (corporate sponsor). This partner connects to one of the UN SDGs. Every week we then create publicity for the match partner by telling their story of sustainable solutions for the future on all our commercial channels, such as Facebook, Instagram, the local newspaper, LED – advertising and the big screen.
2. Bodø Glimt plays all matches with the slogan Action Now on the back of our Jersey. Companies that work with sustainable solutions for the future are invited to be partners with the club – they are called Ambassadors for a sustainable future.
3. The team has also made a Green Action Now jerseys with the logos of the relevant goals of UN SDGs.
4. The team has a network of partners (8 meetings a year), and for 2019, we focus on the partners' sustainable work/stories.
5. All teams in Bodø Glimt's youth department has chosen their own SDGs – and are doing specific activities in society to support that goal.
"Danny Hayes has been an inspiration for the Action Now program and for our team to become a champion of sustainability. He has helped us take our pilot program to a new level and develop its potential beyond Norway," Thomassen said.
The Action Now program has now caught the attention of international companies. The United States-based Renewable Development Corporation, led by William Yuan and Paul Meissner, is the premier sponsor of the Action Now program in addition to is assisting the strategic development of the program and taking the program global.
The week of January 19th, Thomassen will travel to Davos, Switzerland, where the World Economic Forum is taking place, to present the Action Now program to a mix of business leaders, politicians and activists from around the world.
"We are very grateful for the support, strategic guidance and international relationships Renewable Development Corporation has brought to our team and to our initiative," Thomassen said.
