Younger workers are less likely to aspire to reach high-level company roles, more likely to identify with 'lazy girl jobs' and 'quiet quitting'
SEATTLE, Aug. 7, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- ResumeBuilder.com, the premier resource for professional resume templates and career advice, has published a recent survey report that examines how many millennial and Gen Z workers identify with the 'lazy girl jobs' trend. The report also shares insight into the career aspirations of millennials and Gen Zers. The survey garnered responses from 668 millennial and Gen Z workers in the United States.
Based on the report, 14 percent of Gen Z and Millennial women identify with the 'lazy girl job' trend. 'Lazy girl jobs' refer to jobs that are not challenging, often remote, and have few growth opportunities. Conversely, 70 percent identify with the 'girl boss' trend. Likewise, 15 percent of Gen Z and Millennial men identify with 'quiet quitting,' and 61 percent identify with 'hustle culture.' Twenty-eight percent of respondents say their career is only a 'small part' or 'not part' of their identity.
Survey results also show that 34 percent of survey respondents 'never' or 'no longer' aspire to achieve a high-level or C-suite role. Of those who previously aspired to reach a high-level role but no longer do, their top reasons were that these jobs require too many sacrifices and they want to focus on their families. Likewise, only one-third of respondents say they would be willing to take on a 'very challenging' job, 54 percent say a 'somewhat challenging' job, and 10 percent say a 'not very challenging' job.
This online poll was commissioned by ResumeBuilder.com and conducted on SurveyMonkey Audience starting July 27, 2023. Respondents consist of a national sample that was randomly selected from a United States panel, inclusive of 668 full-time workers, part-time workers, students, or those looking for work. All respondents were between the ages of 18 and 43. To view the complete report, please visit https://www.resumebuilder.com/1-in-7-millennial-and-gen-z-women-identify-with-lazy-girl-job-trend/.
