Majority of business leaders say a 4-day work week helps companies compete for top talent and increase profitability
SEATTLE, June 28, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- ResumeBuilder.com, the premier resource for professional resume templates and career advice, has published a recent survey report that explores attitudes toward 4-day work weeks among business leaders. The report also shares insight on how a 4-day work week may impact employee salaries and paid time off. Overall, 600 business leaders in the United States completed the full survey.
According to survey results, 20 percent of business leaders say their company has a 4-day work week. Among this group, 31 percent say '100 percent of employees are eligible,' 55 percent say '75 percent,' 9 percent say '50 percent,' and 6 percent say '25 percent or less.' The main determinants for eligibility are level of responsibility, work location, work performance, and employee department. Additionally, 84 percent of business leaders say the 4-day work week policy has helped their company compete for top talent, and 88 percent say it has positively impacted profitability.
"Four-day work weeks are becoming increasingly common, as companies begin to recognize its potential to simultaneously boost productivity, profitability, and employee satisfaction," says a ResumeBuilder.com spokesperson. "Business leaders who decide to hop on this bandwagon may see significant improvements to their company as a whole."
Survey results also indicate that 4 in 10 companies plan to implement a 4-day work week. Fifty percent say the policy will become effective in '2023,' 42 percent say '2024,' and 8 percent say '2025 or later.' Seventy-six percent of business leaders believe that 4-day work weeks will reduce employee turnover, help companies compete for top talent, and improve company profitability. However, 37 percent say the total number of hours worked will stay the same and 38 percent say it will decrease. Among respondents who say the total hours will decrease, 30 percent say salaries may be reduced, and 73 percent say paid time off may be reduced.
This survey was commissioned by ResumeBuilder.com and conducted online by the survey platform Pollfish on June 6, 2023. In total, 600 participants in the United States completed the entire survey. All participants had to pass through demographic filters to ensure they were age 25 or older, earned more than $50,000 annually, and had an organizational role of C-level executive, director, president, owner, senior management, or HR manager.
