Rimstorm CEO Named CMMC Provisional Assessor
Ben Gerenstein earned the important certification this month, becoming one of the first people in the country to achieve this qualification.
HERNDON, Va., Sept. 27, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Rimstorm CEO Ben Gerenstein this month qualified as a Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) Provisional Assessor to become one of the first assessors in the country.
This important accreditation will allow Rimstorm to soon provide CMMC assessments for government contractors. With this qualification, Gerenstein will participate in the first ever assessments under the CMMC-Accreditation Body (CMMC-AB).
Gerenstein is one of 72 assessors selected out of a pool of more than 500 candidates. He is authorized to conduct CMMC assessments during a provisional period that lasts from now until January 2021.
The Department of Defense created the CMMC compliance standard to improve the security of the supply chain of the Defense Industrial Base. It is expected to take effect later this year.
The CMMC-AB has worked with the hundreds of members of the Defense Industrial Base to deploy a CMMC assessment ecosystem. Rimstorm has been an active member of that group with Gerenstein serving on the CMMC-AB Exam Objectives Working Group.
Rimstorm has also submitted an application to become a third-party assessor organization (C3PAO) for CMMC. While meeting the mandate itself, Rimstorm currently works with fellow members of the government contracting community to ensure they meet CMMC compliance.

He develops Rimstorm's business strategies and plans to ensure long-term sustainable growth by leading and motivating teams and operations.
Gerenstein is a serial entrepreneur who has grown, cultivated and sold a number of successful IT companies, including, most recently, an MSP located in the DC metro region. He has received numerous awards over the years, including multiple wins of the Fantastic 50 Award presented by the Virginia Chamber of Commerce to the fastest growing companies in the state.
His passion for technology began while pursuing has Bachelor's degree in Computer Science at Colgate University. Throughout his career, Gerenstein has had extensive experience as a senior network engineer and security analyst. He was Director of Network Systems at Dow Jones and his technical experience includes heading a cybersecurity audit team for the US Naval institute. In addition, Ben has an MBA and is also a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).
