Rockler Introduces New Beadlock Loose-Tenon Joinery Jig and Doweling Jigs
Rockler Woodworking and Hardware has introduced new and improved versions of a couple of its most popular joinery jigs - the Beadlock Loose Tenon Joinery Jig and Doweling Jigs.
MEDINA, Minn., May 25, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Rockler Woodworking and Hardware has introduced new and improved versions of a couple of its most popular joinery jigs – the Beadlock Loose Tenon Joinery Jig and Rockler's Doweling Jigs.
The new Beadlock Joinery Jig is a more affordable update of the Beadlock Pro Jig that enables users to achieve the strength of traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery with just a handheld drill. Its patented system overlaps drill holes on both mating workpieces to create perfect mortises for Beadlock loose-tenon stock (also available from Rockler).
Setup is straightforward and quick – the user marks a line across the center of the joint on both workpieces and uses the hairline indicator to accurately position the jig. The glass-reinforced nylon jig body has dedicated spaces for positioning clamps to hold the jig in place. Once the jig is secured, the user drills the first set of holes with the hardened-steel drilling guide in the ''A'' position, then slides it to the ''B'' position and drills the overlapping holes. See the Beadlock Jig in action here.
"Mortise-and-tenon joinery is very strong, but it can be a challenge," said Dan Wenning, Rockler's senior director of product development. "Typically, it involves multiple machines and complicated setups. The Beadlock system makes it easy –all you need is a handheld drill."
The main Beadlock Joinery Jig kit includes the jig frame, a 3/8" split-point bit, drilling guide, stop collar and plastic storage case. The case also has room for two accessory kits that have bits, drilling guides and stop collars for machining mortises for 1/4" Beadlock tenons and 1/2" Beadlock tenons. Also available: a set of spacers and longer knobs that allows off-center drilling or centering holes on stock up to 4-1/8'' thick.
Rockler's Doweling Jigs enable the user to quickly and easily drill aligned holes in mating workpieces to create strong dowel joints. The jigs are available in three models, for drilling holes for 1/4", 3/8" or 1/2" diameter dowels, and each comes with a corresponding drill bit, stop collar and hex wrench.
Made from durable reinforced nylon with hardened steel drill guide bushings, the new Doweling Jigs feature a front window opening with reference lines that makes it easy to center the jig or line up either guide bushing to reference marks on the workpiece. They also feature a depth scale molded into back side of the jig that enables the user to quickly set the bit drilling depth with the stop collar. The big change, however, is the addition of movable stops on both edges of the jig that allow quick positioning in repeat applications.
"If you have two face frame boards, you can put down one stop and drill two holes, then move to the other board, put down the other stop and drill two holes and they will line up," Wenning said. "There's no need to mark lines or do much setup."
