CONYERS, Ga., Oct. 11, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Royal Armouries, the UK's national collection of arms and armour, has entered into an agreement with Atlanta Cutlery Corporation of Conyers, GA, USA, and its parent company, Windlass Steelcrafts of Dehradun, India, allowing them to produce high quality replicas of historically important weapons and armour from the museum's collection. These will be accurate replicas based on meticulous study of the originals.
The origins of the Royal Armouries may be traced back to the working armoury of the medieval kings of England. Some of the most compelling narratives of human experience have been shaped by arms and armour. Royal Armouries celebrated collection originated in the nation's working arsenal, which was assembled over many centuries at the Tower of London. The Master of the Armoury was responsible for maintaining a store of armour and weapons for use in the event of war and had an office in the Tower of London. The first use of the title was in 1462. Today the Royal Armouries has three museums across the United Kingdom and cares for one of the most important collections of arms and armour in the world. Its treasures are displayed and housed in its historical home at the White Tower in the Tower of London, at the purpose-built Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds and at Fort Nelson near Portsmouth, Hampshire.
Atlanta Cutlery will offer these reproductions through its Museum Replicas Limited division. Museum Replicas Limited sparked the modern interest in historical sword reproductions by being the first company to widely offer accurate, affordable copies of historical swords 36 years ago. Atlanta Cutlery was initially formed in 1971 to sell antique knives purchased from the old stock of Sheffield knifemakers, such as Joseph Rodgers and Sons, and later transitioned to sword and knife reproductions from early American and post Victorian European history.
Windlass Steelcrafts began in 1943 as a major supplier of Kukri knives to the famous Nepalese Gurkhas. In the 1980s, they expanded their output to include reproductions of historical swords, knives and edged weapons from cultures all over the world. Combining age-old techniques and appropriate materials, highly experienced smiths, and modern technology, they have gained prominence as one of the world's leading makers of high-quality swords, knives, and armour. Windlass Steelcrafts currently supplies military swords to several countries and is an official manufacturer to the United States Marine Corps.
Each reproduction will be carefully prototyped under the expert guidance of an historical weapons researcher. Curators from the Royal Armouries will then inspect and certify the piece to ensure the specifications exactly match those of the original piece. Reproductions will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from the current Master of the Armouries.
