Prestigious Kentucky-Based University Seeks to Preserve the Spirit and Mission of Phillips for Current and Future Graduates
CHATSWORTH, Calif., Feb. 12, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Phillips Graduate University has partnered with Campbellsville University in South Central Kentucky to continue the legacy of PGU with new classes beginning May 1. Operations will continue at the Chatsworth location for Phillips at 19900 Plummer Street. CU's Board of Trustees approved a resolution, Feb 5, establishing The Phillips Graduate Institute. Students will be able to pursue their education at Phillips Graduate Institute, as it will remain an accredited entity under the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)*. Students will participate in a program which allows them to achieve their Marriage and Family Therapy license under the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
Randy Christopher, provost for Phillips, said, "It's a bright new beginning for the school and an association we can all feel good about. Campbellsville will preserve the values and mission of the current institution and Phillips will always be dedicated to serving the diverse social, economic, gender and ethnic groups that make up Los Angeles County and beyond."
Christopher said Campbellsville University will be working with PGU's faculty and staff to steward the graduate school into the future as Phillips Graduate Institute of Campbellsville University. Christopher agreed, "Indeed, the decision by Campbellsville to have PGU incorporate the school's former name, Phillips Graduate Institute, is a nod to the solid academics and warm community for which Phillips has always been known."
"We are excited about our counseling programs," said Shelly Stee, chair of the MFT program. "The same faculty will be teaching the same courses at the same location. It is like just starting a new term."
Campbellsville University was founded in 1906 and now has an enrollment of more than 13,000 students. Phillips Graduate Institute was founded in 1971. Dr. H. Keith Spears, vice president for communication and assistant to the president at Campbellsville University, said, "Campbellsville University is looking forward to starting our program at the same location where PGU has created so many servant leaders in PGU's almost five decades of service to southern California."
"Our faculty are currently working with the professors at PGU to develop the curriculum, support services and learning environment that is the legacy of PGU."
Spears said that in its new role with Phillips, Campbellsville University brings financial stability, administrative expertise and, most of all, a continued commitment to helping others. Along with more than 90 academic fields of study, Campbellsville is also known nationwide for its social programs serving the diverse needs of local communities and the world.
"It's exciting," PGI graduate Sarah Kelley, MA, MFT '01, said. "The Campbellsville plan, coupled with Phillips' mission, is a match truly made in heaven."
