Seth L. Matarasso, MD, Honored with 2018 ASDS Stegman Award
Rolling Meadows, IL (PRWEB) October 15, 2018 -- The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) presented Seth L. Matarasso, MD, with the Samuel J. Stegman, MD, Award for Distinguished Service on Saturday, Oct. 13 at the 13th Annual ASDS Gala during the 2018 ASDS Annual Meeting.
Established in 1996, the award honors individuals who have made major contributions in furthering the goals of ASDS. These contributions may be identified through education in publications, lectures and courses; special accomplishments in a leadership role; and research in areas of interest to dermatologic surgeons.
“It is historic that Dr. Matarasso was Dr. Stegman’s final fellow before his untimely death in 1990,” said C. William Hanke, MD, MPH. “He has lived the mission statement of this award with the same passion and courage as Dr. Stegman himself.”
“The fact that he was Dr. Stegman’s last surgical fellow connects Dr. Matarasso historically and emotionally to this prestigious award,” said Kimberly J. Butterwick, MD. “For over a quarter of a century, he has not missed an ASDS Annual Meeting and has presented at them all, as well as regional workshops, earning him the Excellence in Education Award in 2009.”
”Dr. Matarasso has worked tirelessly on behalf of ASDS for over two decades serving in 15 separate capacities during that time period,” said Roy G. Geronemus, MD. “Not only is he extremely loyal and committed to ASDS, he has been a prolific lecturer locally, nationally and internationally for over 400 scientific meetings and has over 90 publications in peer-reviewed literature.”
“Dr. Matarasso’s exemplary service to ASDS and the medical community throughout his career makes him exceedingly worthy of this prestigious award,” said Mitchel P. Goldman, MD.
“He has been an editor for ‘Dermatologic Surgery’ for well over 15 years and has been invited to be a co-guest editor for three special issues, most recently the ‘Aesthetic Procedures for the Male Patient’ in November 2017,” said Roy C. Grekin, MD. “It is clear that Dr. Matarasso has shown a steadfast commitment to the specialty through his ongoing teaching, research, patient care and service to ASDS. I believe his selection as this year’s Stegman awardee is a most fitting tribute to our great mentor.”
