BOSTON, Jan. 16, 2025 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- SIP Global Partners, a US-Japan VC firm investing in early-stage, sustainable deep tech, announced today its investment in SEEQC, Inc. ("SEEQC"), the first company to create digital chips to power full-stack quantum computing systems. SIP participated in the $30M funding round which included investment from NordicNinja, Booz Allen Ventures, EQT Ventures, M-Ventures (Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany), BlueYard Capital, FAM and Asset Management.
Current quantum systems are limited by expensive, complex and energy-intensive physical hardware. SEEQC's microprocessor system will replace power-hungry brute force analog/digital room-temperature technology for all quantum computing modalities, providing a 100,000x improvement in power consumption and up to 97% lower cost as compared to classical architectures.
"We believe that SEEQC's technology represents an essential element in the evolution and scale up of quantum computing," stated Jeffrey Smith, General Partner of SIP Global Partners. "The team is exceptionally strong and very well positioned to establish technical and commercial leadership globally."
The proprietary Single Flux Quantum ("SFQ") chips operate at the same ultra-low temperatures as qubits allowing real-time digital readout, control and multiplexing. The company's proprietary firmware and software stack, PRISM, will support a range of third-party applications at high speed and scale.
"Quantum computing needs to move beyond beautiful physics experiments into scalable, enterprise-grade systems that solve real-world problems. In the same way that classical computers were revolutionized by scaling from vacuum tubes to transistors to integrated circuits and today's microprocessors, we've built the chip-based backbone that the entire quantum computing ecosystem needs to move beyond huge, complex hardware to finally achieve the same powerful scaling as classical processors. The new funding will help us accelerate this mission and continue bridging the gap between quantum and classical, lab and application, and potential and promise," said CEO and co-founder of SEEQC, John Levy.
SEEQC is a digital infrastructure partner for several quantum leaders including BASF and NVIDIA. The SEEQC chip will serve as the "QPU" alongside the NVIDIA Grace CPU and NVIDIA Hopper GPU and be capable of supporting multi-modal computing and quantum AI. Additional grant-based partnerships include NASA, the US Department of Energy, the US Department of Defense, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and leading academic institutions.
The $30M funding will accelerate the commercial rollout and support the company's next-generation chip technology, including further integration of SEEQC technology across quantum modalities and build-out of real-time, on-chip error correction.
