FREDERICK, Md., Nov. 20, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Sophie & Madigan's Playground, a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing a themed and inclusive playground to Frederick that honors the memory of sisters Sophie and Madigan Lillard, has been named a "2019 Top-Rated Nonprofit" by GreatNonProfits, a website where people can find and post reviews on more than 1.6 million charities and nonprofits.
The Top-Rated Nonprofit Award is based on the number of positive reviews that Sophie & Madigan's Playground received on the GreatNonProfits web site from volunteers, donors and recipients of aid who have interacted with the nonprofit and afterwards posted their favorable reviews.
Sophie & Madigan's Playground will soon become the first all-inclusive playground in Frederick, Md. that gives children of every ability the opportunity to play.
"We are honored to be named a 2019 Top-Rated Nonprofit," says Christine Lillard, Co-Founder, Sophie & Madigan's Playground. "We are proud of how far we've come and look forward to the park's grand opening in 2020!"
Added a reviewer named Lacey P: "This nonprofit is one of a kind, bringing our community together for the purpose of laughter, creating memories with loved ones and teaching children the magic of play. Their destination playground will honor the lives of their sweet girls, Sophie and Madigan, who lived life to the fullest. I've never seen a group of people more dedicated to a cause then those behind Sophie and Madigan's Playground. Our family has attended several events to support them and will continue to do so, we walked away having another amazing memory together as a family."
The Sophie & Madigan playground will go up on the city-owned Hargatt Farm property, located off of Butterfly Lane on the site of the new Westside Regional Park. The playground will feature three different play areas, referred to as "lands" – Fantasy Land, Neverland and Wonderland — with different custom-made playground equipment designed with the girls' personalities in mind. Sophie and Madigan were 6 and 3 years old when they died after a fire ripped through their home. Christine and Jack Lillard founded the nonprofit in June 2013 as a way to honor the memory of the girls as well as provide the Frederick County community a place where families could go to play, create and build memories with their loved ones.
"Sophie & Madigan's Playground is a great example of a nonprofit making a real difference in their community," said Perla Ni, CEO of GreatNonprofits, "Their award is well-deserved recognition not only of their work, but the tremendous support they receive, as shown by the many outstanding reviews they have received from people who have direct experience working with Sophie & Madigan's Playground."
