ST LOUIS, Mo., June 19, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- SmartMouth Oral Health Laboratories' Clinical DDS Advanced Oral Rinse is featured in a clinical study to be published in the Oral Health & Preventive Dentistry Journal. The study compares SmartMouth Clinical DDS Advanced Formula with 0.12% chlorhexidine mouth rinse and provides information that will help millions of people struggling with gingivitis.
The results of this study suggest that SmartMouth Clinical DDS Advanced Oral Rinse is an effective over-the-counter alternative to 0.12% chlorhexidine prescription mouth rinse in reducing gingival inflammation, bleeding and plaque, particularly when concerns over tooth staining, taste alteration and patient compliance exist. SmartMouth Clinical DDS was proven to be an effective alternative to 0.12% chlorhexidine in reducing the gingival index, calculus index, plaque index and patient bleeding scores. SmartMouth also scored higher on patient compliance than 0.12% chlorhexidine.
The study was conducted by Saint Louis University Center for Advanced Dental Education and Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine. The facilitators provided 76 subjects with either SmartMouth Clinical DDS, 0.12% chlorhexidine or a placebo mouth rinse. The subjects were instructed to use the mouth rinse for six weeks and then be assessed for changes. The facilitators scored each patient on gingival index, calculus index, tooth stain index, plaque index and bleeding. Participants' compliance was also measured during the study.
"We always knew SmartMouth Clinical DDS was groundbreaking science, and now we're thrilled with the results that will be published in Oral Health & Preventive Dentistry, which confirms what dental health professionals have believed for years - that SmartMouth Clinical DDS is an effective over-the-counter alternative to chlorhexidine for gingivitis, bleeding gums, and plaque, without many of the negatives." says Andrew Burch, CEO of SmartMouth Oral Health Laboratories. "We suspect that dental professionals and countless patients will welcome this news."
SmartMouth Clinical DDS Advanced Oral Rinse is alcohol free and formulated to prevent plaque accumulation and to help protect against gingivitis, while also featuring patented zinc ion technology to stop and prevent sulfur gas for 12 hours per rinse. Chlorhexidine is a mouth rinse that contains alcohol and is prescribed to treat gingivitis. Chlorhexidine can only be used for short periods of time, typically two weeks. SmartMouth Clinical DDS is available for purchase over-the-counter, while chlorhexidine rinse is only available by prescription.
The premier line of SmartMouth oral care products includes Original Activated, Dry Mouth Relief, and Clinical DDS oral rinses, Dry Mouth mints, Premium Toothpaste and Original Activated Oral Rinse "single packs".
