SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 2, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Sustainable Ocean Alliance (SOA), a global non-profit organization that advances the impact of ocean leaders and solution startups, announces its next virtual summit, SOA Connects: Women in Ocean Science, Tech and Innovation.
The summit will take place on Thursday, September 3, 2020 from 8:00 AM - 11:30 AM PST. Registration is now open on soalliance.org.
Keynote speakers to include:
- Cristina Mittermeier, award- winning conservation photographer and Co-Founder of SeaLegacy, is the featured keynote speaker for the event. Mittermeier is most famous for her work as a marine biologist and activist who pioneered the concept and field of conservation photography.
- The First Lady of Palau, Debbie Remengesau, is a staunch ocean advocate and the Republic of Palau is the largest marine protected sanctuary in the world.
The Summit will highlight female solutionists from SOA's global community, as well as workshops in a wide variety of subjects including: Impact Investing, Environmental Advocacy through Film, and the Circular Economy.
"As a female led organization, SOA has sought to raise the voices of female ocean changemakers since our founding," said Daniela Fernandez, Founder & CEO of Sustainable Ocean Alliance. "Our upcoming SOA Connects summit is part of an ongoing effort to give female leaders a global platform to effect change and inspire the next wave of ocean solutionists."
SOA Connects: Women in Ocean Science, Tech and Innovation builds on the success of SOA's most recent all-female panel of marine biologists, scientists and ocean leaders during the United Nations World Oceans Day.
"You can't extricate the conversation of 'equality' from 'environmentalism'," says Christina Ochoa, actor, ocean advocate and champion of SOA. "Without female role models and both inclusive and accurate representation in positions of leadership, young girls may inadvertently grow up not knowing their efforts can have just as much IMPACT."
The upcoming summit will feature SOA alumni and global ocean leaders, including:
- Nadia Laabs, SafetyNet Technologies
- Kortney Opshaug, Blue Ocean Gear
- Svanika Balasubramanian, rePurpose
- Lindsey Hoell, Dispatch Goods
In alignment with SOA's values and free, impact-driven summit, they are asking participants to share an optional photo taking action that positively impacts waterways to enter the event.
