RIVERSIDE, Calif., April 5, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- In collaboration with The Alliance of Hispanic Serving Institution Educators (AHSIE), Rick Najera's Latino Thought Makers will present A Conversation with Cheech Marin on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. (doors open at 7:00 p.m.) at Riverside City College's Coil Auditorium located at 3890 University Avenue, Riverside, CA 92501 as part of the 11th Annual 2019 AHSIE Conference taking place April 14-17th. Admission to the Latino Thought Makers celebrity event is included in the registration fee for AHSIE conference attendees, who upon registration, will be promoted to select if they would like to attend Latino Thought Makers. Following the special event is a Private VIP dessert reception with both Rick Najera and Cheech Marin at Riverside City College's Center for Social Justice and Civil Liberties, 3855 Market St., Riverside, CA 92501, a 3-minute walk from Coil Auditorium. The cost is $75 per person with tickets limited exclusively to conference participants that can be purchased at the time of registration.

Special guest Cheech Marin is an actor, writer, director, musician, art collector, humanitarian, comedian, cultural icon and multi-generational star. To this day, Cheech and Chong films remain the number one weekend video rentals. Cheech is the author of Cheech is Not My Real Name…But Don't Call Me Chong! by Hachette Book Group.
Cheech Marin contributes a considerable amount of time and energy to promoting Chicano art. Since the mid-1980s, he has amassed a phenomenal and renowned private collection of Chicano art, the largest in North America. Following his success in touring selections from the Cheech Marin Collection to some of the nation's top art museums, in 2017, the City of Riverside, CA, and the Riverside Art Museum proposed a partnership to create the Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art, Culture & Industry of the Riverside Art Museum. Scheduled for completion in 2021, 'The Cheech will provide a home for more than 700 works from his personal collection, which includes paintings, sculptures, and photography by Chicano artists throughout the United States.
Latino Thought Makers is a nationally recognized interview series hosted and created by comedian and award-winning writer-director-author Rick Najera. The show is geared toward Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) and showcases the successes and career paths of influential Latino and Latina role models. Previous guests have included Edward James Olmos, Dolores Huerta, Danny Trejo, Luis Guzman, Esai Morales, and more.
The Alliance of Hispanic Serving Institution Educators (AHSIE) supports the work of the nation's Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) as they seek to provide quality, relevant educational opportunities to large and growing numbers of underserved populations, particularly Hispanic students. All of the Alliance's activities directly benefit practitioners and educators at HSIs through measures that involve cooperation, networking, partnerships, information-sharing, technical assistance and collaboration.
