CROFTON, Md., Oct. 25, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The newly revealed Chesapeake Bay License Plate design will be available for purchase starting Monday, October 29th; in the meantime, drivers can now preview how the new plate looks on their car. The design highlights two Maryland icons: the blue crab and Bay Bridge. It was chosen through focus groups and surveys of thousands of Marylanders among 250 options from multiple artists around the state.
By visiting BayPlateMe.com, Marylanders can test drive the design on an interactive website that demos the plate among vehicles of varying styles and colors. "This is a fun way for drivers to see how the plate looks on several types of cars," said Darren Easton, vice president and creative director for the website's creator, The Cyphers Agency. "If folks like how it looks, they're more likely to want it on their car for more than the environmental benefits that come with purchasing a Bay Plate."
The research behind the new design clearly showed that people view license plates as an accessory. "Marylanders were clear that they wanted the plate to combine a natural resource icon (the crab) with a human-related icon (the bridge) that shows how we interact with the Bay," said Jana Davis, executive director for the Chesapeake Bay Trust, which manages the funds from the Bay Plate program. "This is a unique design – unlike that in any other state - that shouts 'Maryland' through and through."
The Trust turned to The Cyphers Agency to help with marketing, advertising and public relations for the design, after the agency helped increased Bay Plate sales in 2010. "The design has already created a sense of plate envy among our neighboring states, and we're going to encourage drivers to 'accessoride' their cars with this truly unique accent. The best part is that this plate will do more than beautify Maryland's cars — it will protect and restore the Chesapeake Bay and other natural resources in Maryland through watershed restoration projects, K-12 outdoor education, and community engagement in our natural resources," Davis said.
