NEW YORK, June 6, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Society for Corporate Governance continues to celebrate its 75th anniversary with the ringing of the NYSE opening bell on Friday, June 3, by Society President & CEO, Darla Stuckey, and Society members and staff.
The Society's year-long anniversary celebration culminates this month at its National Conference in Chicago on June 21-24, marking the Society's legacy of education, networking, and advocacy for practitioners in the corporate governance community. The Society rang Nasdaq's closing bell in November 2021 and has produced an anniversary timeline and a series of member videos that highlight how the Society has helped practitioners over the past 75 years.
On November 6, 1946, a group of business leaders met to form the American Society of Corporate Secretaries, which has evolved into a growing, robust, and diverse national association for corporate governance professionals now known as the Society for Corporate Governance.
"As we mark three quarters of a century, corporate governance has become mainstream, and the duties of corporate secretaries and governance professionals have increased substantially. The Society has been there throughout this journey. From the post-war boom to Sarbanes-Oxley, Say on Pay, and now ESG, the Society has helped companies respond to the changing expectations of stakeholders, regulators, and lawmakers," observed Stuckey.
"It is an honor to be Chair of the Board during the Society's 75th year," added Jeffrey Pochowicz, Chair of the Society, and Vice President – Associate General Counsel and Assistant Secretary at McDonald's Corporation. "We are a strong community that collaborates to advance governance issues and to share best practices. We salute those before us and look forward to empowering governance professionals to create long-term value for stakeholders for the next 75 years."
