BOSTON, Jan. 17, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Virtual High School (VHS Inc.), a global non-profit organization with the industry's most extensive catalog of online learning options, will open registration for summer 2019 courses today. Online summer classes are great for credit recovery, learning enrichment, and can make room for more scheduling flexibility during the school year.
The Virtual High School's summer program offers core math, science, history and English, as well as a variety of interesting electives for students to enrich their education outside of the school year. This summer, VHS is thrilled to offer a new four-week course on cybersecurity which can be taken for enrichment, as a for-credit course. The course can also be used by schools during the school year as a supplemental module or as part of an after-school program.
Students are also able to take core classes through VHS such as Physical Education 1 & 2 and Health over the summer to make room in their schedules for additional courses and electives during the school year. This can be helpful to students who want to graduate early by completing core curriculum courses during the summer session.
The VHS summer school program offers more than 30 online courses for credit recovery, enrichment and course credit. Courses are instructor-led and NCAA-approved. Students in grades 7-12 are eligible for the program. Courses are offered in one 8-week and two 4-week sessions. The 8-week and first 4-week session begins June 19th, and the second 4-week session begins July 22nd.
For students looking to recover credits, especially those considering college athletics, VHS's NCAA-approved summer courses can help students catch up and stay on track. In summer 2018, students taking VHS summer courses for credit recovery had a 78 percent pass rate.
"Taking courses over the summer can greatly benefit students in many ways," said Carol Ribeiro, President & CEO of VHS. "Students who are behind are able to catch up on concepts they missed during the school year, and students who would like to get ahead can complete necessary coursework during the summer when they have more time. Because VHS summer courses can be accessed day or night, students can still meet work and other commitments while achieving their academic goals."
