The Museum of Latin American Art Bestows First LEGADO Award On Opera Icon Placido Domingo
The Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA) presented world-renown Opera singer, conductor and administrator Plácido Domingo with the LEGADO: A Legacy for the Arts Award, for making a significant and lasting contribution to the world through his passionate dedication to inspiring, training and promoting young Opera artists.
LONG BEACH, Calif., Oct. 9, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA) presented world-renown Opera singer, conductor and administrator Plácido Domingo with the LEGADO: A Legacy for the Arts Award, for making a significant and lasting contribution to the world through his passionate dedication to inspiring, training and promoting young Opera artists. The presentation took place during the cultural institution's annual fundraising Gala, on Friday, October 5, in Long Beach, CA.
"The word legado, legacy, is an important one, and most of us think about it more and more as we get older," said Maestro Domingo in his acceptance remarks. "I am happy and proud to accept from you this first Legado Award, the first of what I hope will be many, many more as the success of this great institution continues to play an important part in the life of this community and of this country."

About Plácido Domingo
Plácido Domingo is a world-renowned, multifaceted artist. Recognized as one of the finest and most influential singing actors in the history of opera, he is also a conductor and a major force as an opera administrator in his role as Eli and Edythe Broad General Director of Los Angeles Opera. His repertoire now encompasses 150 roles, with more than 3900 career performances. He is currently starring in Verdi's masterpiece, Don Carlo, at LA Opera.
Throughout the years, Domingo has always taken an interest in mentoring young opera singers. In 1993, he founded Operalia, an international competition for emerging opera singers that offers these young artists the opportunity to perform for the impresarios, managers, casting directors, conductors and stage directors who will further their careers. And the Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artists program at LA Opera is one of the premier training grounds for the next generation of opera stars.
Domingo has also been involved in various humanitarian efforts, most notably following the earthquake in Mexico City in 1985. He has received honorary doctorates from Oxford University and New York University, among numerous others, for his lifelong commitment and contribution to music and the arts.
