FREDERICK, Md., Oct. 14, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Tony Checchia, Company Founder/Broker of Verita Commercial Real Estate, dedicated community volunteer and a lifelong Fredericktonian, has been named the 2020 George Delaplaine Distinguished Citizen Award Honoree by the National Capital Area Council, Boy Scouts of America. The award will be presented at a gala community event scheduled for Thursday, October 15th, 2020, at River's Edge Farm.
The George Delaplaine Distinguished Citizen Award, presented each year in Frederick County since 1996, recognizes individuals who have rendered outstanding service to the community, state or nation. Former honorees include Dan Schiffman, Peter H. Plamondon, Sr., George Delaplaine, James K. Klutz, Charles A. Nicodemus, Gail T. Guyton, Al Shockley, DeWalt "De" Willard, George R. Tony is a graduate of Mount St. Mary's University where he earned a double major (Economic/Spanish) and a minor (Accounting). Since his real estate career began in the fall of 1989, Tony has consistently been recognized as an industry leader. In 2018, he was awarded the FRED (Fredrick Real Estate Dealmaker) Award for the Broker of the Year by the Frederick County Office of Economic Development. Tony's community involvement and volunteerism run deep. Tony currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Frederick County Association of Realtors and is a past member of the Frederick County Business and Industry Cabinet as well as the Vice Chair of the Fredrick City Historic Preservation Commission.
A 19+ year member of the Rotary Club of Frederick, Tony has served on its Board of Directors, served a term as President, and was recognized as the youngest Rotary Club of Frederick Fellow, the group's most prestigious award. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to acquire and redevelop the Frederick Sportsplex into the Frederick Indoor Sports Center (FISC), a now thriving 65,000 sq. ft. indoor sports, training, and events facility.
He currently lives at the River's Edge Farm along Monocacy River with his wife, Jen, their four children and the family dog Banks. When he is not working, Tony enjoys spending time with the family in OBX or on the farm mowing grass or enjoying a bonfire along the river.
The award ceremony on October 15th, will bring together civic-minded individuals and business leaders from throughout the Fredrick community in an event that recognizes and celebrates the importance of Scouting in guiding and developing today's youth.
Sponsorships are available for contributions of $1,500, which provide a reserve table for six or virtual tickets (upon request) and recognition in the printed program; the major portion qualifies as a tax-deductible contribution under current IRS rules.
