Industry Experts at Upcoming Workshop to Discuss Start-to-Finish Assistance That School Districts Should Consider Regarding School Bell Time Change Strategy
CHARLESTON, S.C., Oct. 9, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The TransPar Group of Companies announced that its K-12 Consulting unit, School Bus Consultants, has partnered with Start School Later, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to healthy, safe, equitable school hours, and will be taking part in a workshop on Tuesday, October 16. The half-day workshop, Adolescent Health and School Start Times: Science and Strategies, will cover the science of sleep and school start times and strategies for handling bus routes, athletics, and other potential implementation challenges. The workshop runs from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut.
"We are excited about this opportunity to take part in this workshop with the Start School Later team," stated Tim Ammon, Chief of Business Development for the TransPar Group of Companies. "Their organization has made a significant effort to ensure that all districts considering school bell time changes understand how to frame discussions related to transportation impacts. Given the difficulty that transportation often presents in the decision making process around bell times due to its critical involvement, we enthusiastically support this type of holistic assessment of both challenges and opportunities."
The workshop is intended for Superintendents of schools, Transportation Directors, Board of Education members, school administrators, teachers and other school staff, athletic directors, parents, and other concerned community members.
Two breakout sessions are being offered: 'Overcoming Challenges to Bell Time Change: Effective Change Management and Creative Solutions' is tailored toward Superintendents and school administrators, while 'Lobbying, Leadership, and Communication Strategies' is designed for parents, community advocates, school staff, school board members, and legislators.
In addition to Mr. Ammon, the following educators and industry experts will be in attendance and presenting:
- Judith Owens, MD, MPH – Director, Center for Pediatric Sleep Disorders and Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School
- Jose Libano, Ed.D. – Principal, Sharon High School, Sharon, Massachusetts
- Tom Platt – President, School Bus Consultants
- Brooks Brenkus – Managing Director, School Bus Consultants
- Phyllis Payne, MPH – Implementation Director, Start School Later
- Terra Ziporyn Snider, PhD – Executive Director, Co-Founder, Start School Later
"We look forward to joining the other presenters and discussing what start-to-finish assistance a school district should consider regarding a school bell time change strategy," added Ammon. "We are pleased to be part of the broader process to enable healthy school start times while minimizing the financial and operational impacts on transportation services."
