NEW YORK, July 31, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- According to the 2018 Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Competition (CSWWC), Trentodoc sparkling wines from northern Italy take top place in Italy and rank among the best in the world.
The CSWWC is the most comprehensive and rigorous international wine competition of its kind, in which every wine is judged exclusively by leading sparkling wine experts: founder Tom Stevenson, regarded as the leading authority on Champagne, Essi Avellan MW, and Dr. Tony Jordan. Every year, wines from countries all around the world enter the competition, including France, Italy, Australia, the USA, and England. In 2018, Trentodoc came out on top compared to other Italian Classic Method ("Metodo Classico") wines, winning medals for 34 labels out of 55 total entries. Of these, Trentodoc wines were awarded 22 Gold medals, up from 14 Gold medals in 2017.
"We are very pleased with the results," says Enrico Zanoni, President of the Istituto Trento DOC, the association representing 51 Trentodoc wine producers from the northern Italian region of Trentino. "They demonstrate the elevated standards that we rigorously uphold. This competition gives an authoritative seal of quality to Trentino and is a fundamental step towards fostering interest and regard of Trentodoc on the international market."
CSWWS claims to be the world's first and only "terroir-driven competition," in which each wine is judged according to its region and country. Stevenson recognized the merits of the unique Trentodoc terroir and the fact that it is the only productive wine region in the world with true mountain viticulture.
"This year the Champagne & Sparkling Wine Championships (CSWWC) awarded 116 Golds in total compared to 127 in 2017, which makes the 22 Golds won by Trentodoc, up from 14 Golds in 2017, all the more extraordinary," says Tom Stevenson. "The quality of Trentodoc has always been special, but each year it just seems to get better. It is currently the most successful sparkling wine appellation in Italy and one of the four greatest sparkling wine regions on the planet. This is not an opinion. It is a conclusion based on five years of exhaustive tasting by three specialist judges at the CSWWC, the toughest, most respected sparkling wine competition in the world."
The high altitude at which Trentodoc's vines are planted – 70% of which lie 3280 feet or more above sea level – together with the Trentino region's pronounced diurnal temperature variations favor high acidity in the grapes and elegance, freshness, and persistence in the wines. The environment, Trentodoc's ties to tradition, and the historic importance of this wine combine to create a product that is increasingly regarded as worthy of global interest and acclaim.

About Trentodoc: Founded in 1984, the Istituto Trentodoc promotes and safeguards the wines of Trentodoc, a denomination that now represents 51 sparkling wine producers from the Trentino region in northern Italy. Giulio Ferrari first began producing sparkling wine there in 1902 after visiting the Champagne region of France. The Trentodoc denomination was established in 1993 and is the first Italian DOC to produce only Classic Method sparkling wines. In 2007, the collective Trentodoc trademark was created, allowing the sparkling wines of Trentino designated as Trento D.O.C. to use it, thereby relaying the origin, connection with the territory, and excellence of Italy's unique sparkling wine.
