BATTESVILLE, Ind., Oct. 23, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- After extensive review and evaluation, Trinity Guardion's flagship product, the Soteria™ Bed Barrier (also known as the Trinity Guardion® Patient Protection System), was selected by Crothall Healthcare (Wayne, PA) as one of its emerging solutions to help environmental services teams mitigate HAI in hospital environments. In its white paper, titled The Five Pillar Strategy to Reduce HAI Incidence, Crothall Healthcare discussed forming strategic partnerships to access cutting-edge technology, and listed a select few products and technologies.
"Over the years, Crothall Healthcare has made tremendous progress supporting patient safety and care with our robust five-pillar approach to support Infection Prevention," said Rich Feczko, national director of systems, standards, innovation and global support for Crothall Healthcare. "We take this responsibility very seriously and have added another solution to our arsenal to support HAI mitigation efforts related to mattress care, by way of our partnership with Trinity Guardion. Mattresses play a significant part in patient healing as well as safety and we remain diligent in our efforts to bring the best-in-class solutions to the forefront to optimize patient health from a support services perspective."
As of early 2018, 29 studies documented that cleaned/disinfected mattresses are still contaminated after terminal cleaning, and 12 studies document mattress failures while still in use. The US FDA issued a safety communication reporting that between 2011 and 2016, FDA received over 700 reports of a hospital bed mattress cover failing to prevent blood or body fluids from leaking into the mattress. In September 2018, ECRI listed mattress contamination as the second of its 2019 Top Ten Health Technology Hazards. Clearly, contaminated hospital mattresses, which are registered FDA medical devices, have not yet been fully addressed by current protocols.
The Soteria Bed Barrier and its instructions for use provide a compliant alternative protocol to the mattress manufacturer's disinfection IFU. This protocol protects current patients from previous occupants, is shown to reduce C-diff rates by 50%, offers a significantly shorter bed turnover time, requires no damaging hard-surface disinfectants for mattress cleaning, provides a unique barcoded inspection and documentation process performed by laundry staff, and can extend the useful life and integrity of patient mattresses.
The Soteria Bed Barrier, a patented launderable mattress microbarrier, works by preventing bacteria such as C. diff, MRSA and VRE from passing in either direction, to or from the mattress and bed deck. The system is designed to maintain its microbarrier capability through 200 Soteria prescriptive CDC-compliant launderings. An independent lab test validated that the Soteria laundry process delivers greater than a 99.9999% reduction of C. diff, mycobacterium and other pathogenic bacteria.
"We are pleased to be working with Crothall Healthcare to help implement our proven infection prevention solution for healthcare providers," said Bruce Rippe, CEO and co-founder of Trinity Guardion. "As a value-add strategic partner, we share Crothall's passion for promoting environmental hygiene and protecting patients."
