United States Gold Bureau Releases the Ultimate Guide to the U.S. Mint's Gold American Eagle Coin
To mark this week's highly anticipated release of the U.S. Mint's 2019 Gold American Eagle proof coin, the United States Gold Bureau has released the definitive guide to this iconic coin series. The online guide explores the coin's history, design inspiration, value and cultural significance in the modern post-Gold Standard era.
AUSTIN, Texas, March 7, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The U.S. Gold Bureau is the largest bulk purchaser of numismatic coins from the U.S. Mint and specializes in the sale of perfect condition "Proof 70" versions of modern coins. The company works with third-party grading services like Numismatic Guaranty Corp. and Professional Coin Grading Service to identify and certify coins that achieve this flawless grade.
When Congress passed the Bullion Coin Act of 1985, the U.S. Mint's first major project was the creation of the Gold American Eagle 1 oz coin, made entirely from gold mined in the United States. Each year, the U.S. Treasury creates a regular "Business Strike" version of the Gold Eagle made for bullion market speculation and circulation, as well as a "Proof" version of the coin, designed for rare coin collectors and investors.
As the guide points out, "a complete Date Run of Gold American Eagle Proof 70 coins is the rarest of the rare. This is truly the Holy Grail for Gold Eagle investors, who realize that in coin investing, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts."
The U.S. Gold Bureau even offers a series of Gold American Eagle coins featuring collectible grading labels that have been hand-signed by Ed Moy, the 38th Director of the U.S. Mint. Moy. Coins with Ed Moy's signature labels have made headlines due to their extreme rarity and premiums investors have been willing to pay at auction.
Another interesting section of the guide discusses the way that the Gold American Eagle coins are dated. "From initial release through 1991, issue years for Gold American Eagles were represented by Roman numerals. Beginning in 1992, six years into the coins' tenure, the practice shifted to striking years of issue in Arabic numerals," the guide explains.
Bullion versions of the 2019 Gold American Eagle are already available for order and the certified "Proof 70" versions will be available to the public starting on March 14.
