Born in Austria, Vogelsinger ventured to the United States in 1961 while pursuing a degree in physical education in Vienna. His journey to America was motivated by love, having met Lois Ryan, an American Fulbright scholar, in Austria. Settling in Massachusetts, Vogelsinger began a remarkable career that would shape soccer in the country for decades to come.
Vogelsinger was widely recognized for establishing the Vogelsinger Soccer Academy in 1965, one of the first soccer camps in the US. This destination camp helped nurture many aspiring soccer players over the years, fostering a love for the sport and instilling valuable life skills such as commitment, perseverance, and hard work.
Vogelsinger was also a key figure in the NASL, starting his professional coaching career with the Boston Minutemen in 1974. He later led Team Hawaii and the San Diego Sockers, showcasing his strong coaching style which was marked by discipline and fairness.
