MARCO ISLAND, Fla., Oct. 22, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Venture Construction Group of Florida (VCGFL) sponsored the Legal Aid Service of Collier County (LASCC) Take a Stand Against Domestic Violence 5K Run/ Walk. The fundraiser was held on Oct. 13 and the timed race began at the Wesley United Methodist Church at 350 S. Barfield Dr. Hundreds of families, businesses and community members joined the cause. The day's festivities included music, face painting, balloons, and refreshments. All raised funds benefitted Legal Aid's Domestic Violence Unit.

Headquartered in Naples, Legal Aid provides high-quality free civil legal advice, representation, and education to those in need throughout Collier County. Legal Aid provides access to legal help for vulnerable populations, including victims of domestic violence, children who have been abused, neglected, or abandoned, families who are at risk of homelessness, seniors and veterans who are denied access to health care or other benefits, and other groups of at-risk individuals.
Tina Nash, founder of the 5K and Legal Aid Advisory Board Member, is a domestic violence survivor. Nash designed the race to raise awareness about domestic violence and to advise those at risk where to turn for help.
According to the Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence, during fiscal year 2015-2016, advocates throughout the state created 113,907 tailored safety plans, provided a total of 412,454 hours of advocacy and counseling services, and received 122,999 domestic violence hotline calls from individuals seeking emergency services, information, and safety planning assistance.
"These statistics are staggering and there is definitely a need for support services. We are dedicated to helping increase awareness and reduce these numbers.
