Veterans Helping Veterans: North American Savings Bank (NASB) U.S. Veterans, Executives Support Veterans Community Project with $10,000 Donation
NASB U.S. Veterans and members of the executive team visited the Veterans Community Project last Tuesday to donate $10,000 and tour the village's new community center.
KANSAS CITY, Mo., Nov. 13, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- When North American Savings Bank (NASB) loan officer and Army veteran Jesse Kangas (NMLS# 1494266) first visited Veterans Community Project in 2017, it was just an empty South Kansas City field off 89th St. and Troost. Now the land is a community space of 23 brightly-colored tiny homes, each proudly displaying the American flag.
On Tuesday, Kangas, NASB CEO Paul Thomas, members of the executive team and several NASB military veterans visited Veterans Community Project (VCP) to tour the village, present VCP with a donation of $10,000, and learn how local companies and individuals can support VCP's mission of ending veteran homelessness in our country.
"As a veteran, I'm moved by the level of workmanship, aesthetics, and design in these community-built homes and what this provides for struggling veterans in our community to transition into a better life," said Kangas.
Founded in 2015 by combat veterans, VCP is a Kansas City, Missouri-based nonprofit whose mission is dedicated to supporting every man and woman who took the oath for our country and ending veteran homelessness.
"We first became involved with VCP in 2016, and from our first tiny home sponsorship to today's check, this community has grown significantly," said NASB VP of Relationship Management and Marine veteran Ken McCormick. "VCP is taking a thoughtful and comprehensive approach to helping our homeless heroes get back on their feet. It's an honor to see the work they do for our veterans," said McCormick.
By December 4th the VCP community will have a total of 49 tiny houses.
Vanessa Van Goethem-Piela, chief development officer for VCP, provided NASB a first look into the new community center that's scheduled to open on December 4th. Van Goethem-Piela explained that the space will provide a variety of services from cooking classes in the industrial kitchen to a comfortable place for veterans to watch football on Sunday afternoons.
Loan officer and U.S. Marine Cops veteran RC Malcolm (NMLS# 415073) summed up the feelings of the group: "These veterans served our country, and they deserve dignity, even if they've fallen on hard times. Seeing this place really gets me in the feelings."
