Voalte Smartphones Improve Care Coordination at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland
SARASOTA, Fla (PRWEB) September 04, 2013 -- Voalte, the leader in clinical communication, today released its latest case study exploring the impact of smartphones on clinical workflow at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland in Pontiac, Michigan. According to the case study, the integrated iPhone™ solution improved communication and maximized efficiency at the community teaching hospital.
The case study reports that the hospital’s previous legacy phones did not have varying ringtones to differentiate alarms and instead were triaged through a health unit coordinator. With Voalte One™, nurses receive alerts and alarms that vary in urgency – directly to their smartphones. This allows the clinical staff to respond to nurse calls quickly and communicate directly with the patient.
According to St. Joe’s VP of Quality and Safety and CMIO, some of the immediate results were increased efficiency between the care team and their patients, and the elimination of overhead paging.
In addition to alarm integration, the case study notes that nurses are able to send and receive text messages within the Voalte One application. Due to the convenience and effectiveness of text messaging, the nurses at St. Joe’s sent over 4,700 text messages within the first month of the Voalte One implementation.
“With the presence of Voalte, the nurses at St. Joe’s are able respond quickly to their patient’s needs,” said Trey Lauderdale, Founder and President of Voalte. “Our solution helps improve care coordination and maximize the time spent with patients.”
In the initial installation, the 443-bed teaching hospital replaced outdated legacy phones with Voalte smartphones in its Cardiac Unit, and plans to expand to two Medical-Surgical units, the South Patient Tower and all other nursing units in the spring of 2014.
