OVERLAND PARK, Kan., June 20, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- On Friday, June 16th WANRack was awarded a $2.8 million dollar grant as a part of the Enabling Middle-Mile Broadband Infrastructure Program, helping expand and strengthen America's high-speed internet networks.
The Biden Administration announced $930 million in grant awards as a part of their Internet for All Initiative. This funding invests in projects that connect regional networks to national Internet networks.
WANRack applied for the grant last September as part of the "Enabling Middle Mile Broadband Infrastructure" program. It was a highly competitive grant process, with over $7 billion in applications. This awarded grant funding, matched by the company, will allow WANRack to construct 45-miles of new fiber optic infrastructure from the northside of Lakeland, FL, passing through Zephyrhills, Dade City and continuing on to Hill 'N Dale in Hernando County. This middle-mile network will improve the affordability of internet access in these and surrounding communities. WANRack collaborated with the local communities to get support for this critical project, which will soon enable high-speed broadband to thousands of unserved and underserved Floridians.
"WANRack has been serving customers in Central Florida for years. We appreciate the recognition on our ability to execute on this much needed project. This middle-mile route will lower the barrier of entry and improve broadband options across a region that has been overlooked by the incumbents," said Mike Brigman, WANRack's President & Chief Operating Officer.
