James Williams Wins 2014 WKA Open Muay Thai Championship
Belcamp, MD (PRWEB) March 31, 2014 -- Top Flight fighter James Williams did more than just make a splash at his first World Kickboxing Association Muay Thai Championship. He blew the competition out of the water by winning his debut WKA championship fight despite fighting above his rankings. He had to be moved up to the 209 lbs. group as his initial division did not have any other competitors in it.
Williams was not rattled by being jumped up to the 209 lbs. division in the Open Muay Thai Championship. Far from it! In his first bout, he showed his superior clinching skills and landed devastating knees and elbows in a captivating match. In his second match, Williams faced a larger and more experienced opponent in a fiercely competitive fight. He showed excellent form, and more than held his own against fighters who officially outranked him on paper. But paper and weight didn’t matter at all as Williams battled his way to the top and became the 2014 WKA Muay Thai Champion.
“It meant a lot to me to win at such a prestigious tournament,” Williams said later. “My training at Top Flight gave me the edge I needed to become the 2014 WKA 209lbs Open Muay Thai Champ on my first try at such a tournament.”
This is William’s biggest win, but not his first. He also won a Stellar Fights MMA belt in the 190 lbs division in his first competition with a first round technical knockout.
A flexible and well-rounded fighter, Williams is off to an incredible start and his potential is astounding. He’s definitely one to watch as his fighting career progresses, and at the rate he’s going, fans are advised not to blink because they’ll miss some amazing moves.
This year’s WKA National Championships were the largest ever in the organization’s history with hundreds of fighters coming from all over the United States of America to compete. The championships were held in Richmond, VA over the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd March. The WKA USA is part of international WKA, which includes more than 90 countries and organizes the annual WKA World Championships. Big name UFC fighters such as Brandon Vera and Amir Sudallah have won WKA Championships.
