50kW Solar Array Installed at New Energy Works Timberframers Headquarters
Farmington, New York (PRWEB) August 31, 2013 -- From their inception nearly 30 years ago, New Energy Works has been a green-minded company, building energy efficient timber frame homes, repurposing antique timbers into new projects, using their own wood scraps for heat, and today have added a solar panel system to offset their energy consumption. New Energy Works strives to support local companies and USA made products whenever possible. The PV panels in this system were made in the Pacific Northwest and installed by a local solar company, QwikSolar.
“Solar power was a logical progression, an exciting next step for us,” explained Brian Mosch, General Manager of New Energy Works. “The panels will harness the most energy during the long summer days and clear cooler weather in Farmington. We expect the 50kW system will supplement a good portion of our consumption, and will allow us to feed back to the grid whenever possible.”
192 Solarworld 265 Watt PV Panels were installed on the roof of the timber frame shop at New Energy Works. The DC current gathered by each panel is converted to AC at the same panel. Using Enlighten Solar Manager S/W, panel-by-panel production monitoring will be available. This will help ensure the system functions at the highest possible efficiency, minimizing sudden downtime by detecting diminished function before any damaging problems occur.
“NYSERDA (New York State Energy Research and Development Agency) and New York State assistance, Federal Tax Credits, and knowledgeable companies like QwikSolar make solar power a viable option for just about anyone,” said Mosch. New Energy Works sister company, Pioneer Millworks, has plans in place to install and similar system on the roof of their mill. “We expect both of our systems will provide a good example for our clients as well as offsetting operations costs.”
