ASM International Shifts to New Conference and Exhibition
MATERIALS PARK, Ohio (PRWEB) October 24, 2018 -- ASM International has announced its first annual International Materials Applications & Technologies Conference and Exhibition (IMAT). Shifting away from MS&T, ASM’s newest event will be held in Cleveland, OH from September 14-17, 2020. Industry Partners, Ceramic Industry and NACE International, will accompany ASM International in this shift.
IMAT will bring together all of ASM’s committees and six affiliates, along with industry partners, to create a conference and exhibition with a strong focus on application-oriented, real-world materials technologies that can be used today and into the future. The conference and exhibition will include a wide range of technical sessions, education courses, keynotes, networking, and an exposition.
“During the fall of 2016 and early 2017, the ASM Board gave me the charge to review all current and past strategies and programs of our society,” said ASM CEO, Bill Mahoney. “The going-forward result of that review is the ASM Renewal, a three-year operation which is transforming ASM into 21st-century leadership among professional technical societies. The Renewal review of MS&T exposed both brand equity and economic issues for ASM, and unfortunately, our MS&T partners were unwilling to consider our proposals for adjustments. At the same time, veteran ASM members informed me about past ‘ASM Materials Week’ conferences. With the support of ASM’s Board in May 2017, we decided to move to an all-ASM event after MS&T 2019. That event is IMAT 2020.”
The all-ASM IMAT 2020 program will include not only traditional valuable topics, but also economic, environmental, and emerging market topics at the leading-edge confluence of industry, academia, and government. The IMAT 2020 key topic areas and exhibit floor plan will be released in 2019. Additional industry partners will be announced prior to the program release. IMAT is positioned to be THE place for leading materials science individuals and organizations to come together and proactively address global materials challenges.
