Acker Announces US $10M+ Bicentennial Auction
200 Lots Domaine-Direct Lots Comprise Over $1M from 40 Superstar Producers
NEW YORK, Feb. 4, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Acker, America's oldest wine shop and the leading wine auction house of the past decade announced last week its Bicentennial Auction, a compilation of over US $10M of the world's finest and rarest wines in celebration of its 200th anniversary as a company.
The historic sale taking place on Friday, February 7th beginning at 11am at The Pool in New York City, formerly the Four Seasons, includes over 200 Domaine-direct lots from 40 of the world's superstar producers – a cache of wine totaling over US $1M for this special segment. In celebration of the company's two century milestone, Acker will also welcome to the auction room some of the winemakers who produced these benchmark wines, alongside many of its most important collectors from around the globe.
The sale's catalog, a tome containing hundreds of pages of the world's most highly coveted wines, is comprised of these 40 Domaine-direct consignments, flanked by 28 additional collections from globally respected collectors. The sale in its entirety features over 1,500 lots which will be auctioned live, as well as online via the auction house's web bidding platform and App over the course of the day.
A standout collection in the auction, well known to collectors worldwide, is the amazing cellar of Wilf Jaeger, featured in Lots 945-1032. This highly lauded collection has been written about in international publications over decades thanks to Jaeger's boundless passion for Burgundy, extreme diligence concerning provenance, and pristine storage from the moment of purchase. It is one the world's greatest collections, with increasingly rare, fine wine in the sale dating back to 1896. One of the most prodigious Champagne collections in recent memory is also represented in the auction, with highly coveted magnums of Krug Collection back to the 1961 vintage, and the great Krug Clos du Mesnil back to its first vintage, 1979. A remarkable collection of 70 lots featuring Burgundy superstar Domaine Leroy and d'Auvenay Leroy also a high point in the sale, courtesy of another well-known American collector.
"It is a tremendous honor for me, my family, and everyone at Acker to celebrate two- centuries as a company," said Acker Chairman, John Kapon, of the benchmark event. "Lots of sweat went into transforming this one-time wine shop into a global business, and to be surrounded at this 200th anniversary sale by our friends and clients who helped us get here, right alongside some of the greatest producers ever to make wine is just spectacular. This auction celebration will be one for the ages."
