Be Cool: Save Energy and Money This Summer
NEW YORK (PRWEB) July 24, 2018 -- Summer is here, the temperature is rising, and energy bills are causing sticker shock. As people crank the temperature down on their A/C units to beat the heat, homeowners are looking for ways to save money while staying comfortable. The Lennox Home Energy Report Card survey, which asked people to grade their energy efficiency proficiency, found that even though most homeowners pass the test, many could still use a course in Energy Savings 101. Recently, Lennox teamed with YourUpdateTV to discuss some interesting findings from the survey.

• Making the Grade, with Room to Improve: When asked to grade their household on how well they conserve energy at home, nearly two-thirds of homeowners rate themselves above average with an “A” or “B” letter grade (62 percent). Fifteen percent of homeowners gave themselves an ‘A,’ 47 percent gave their household a ‘B’ when grading their household energy efficiency, and 31 percent gave themselves a ‘C.’
• Countdown to Cool: Nearly one in four American homeowners wait until May or June to turn on their A/C system for the first time of the year.
• Conservation is Key: When homeowners were asked about what steps they are taking to conserve energy at home, 73 percent said they are likely to change their air filter to increase energy efficiency, while 55 percent of homeowners program their thermostat.
• Desperate to Save: Thirty-three percent of homeowners would rather walk around in their underwear at home than spend the money to cool down their house.
• Mixed Reaction: Homeowners are most likely to turn up or off the thermostat as a reaction to getting a high summer energy bill (31 percent), closely followed by identifying and unplugging unused things in their home (28 percent). Around one in five say they will start turning off their lights (19 percent), while 16 percent will start researching ways to save on their bill.
• Cooling in Action: Nearly seven in ten homeowners adjust the air conditioning in their homes when doing normal everyday activities (68 percent). Fifty-nine percent adjust the temperature for when they are sleeping, 42 percent when entertaining, 20 percent when cooking, 15 percent while exercising, and 12 percent when “making whoopee.”
