Blue Team Con Registration Now Open, Training Day Added
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) June 26, 2023 -- Registration is now open for Blue Team Con, the premier cybersecurity conference for defenders, taking place August 26 and 27 at the Fairmont Chicago Hotel. Additionally, a new slate of pre-conference training sessions will be held on August 25. More information and tickets can be found at blueteamcon.com.
“When it comes to security industry conferences and gatherings, the information sharing network for red team and offensive research and activities was very mature while those for blue team and defense were lacking,” said Frank McGovern, Blue Team Con cofounder and advisory board member. “Blue Team Con was built by practitioners for practitioners to establish an ecosystem around defensive cybersecurity. We are excited to present a diverse and inclusive platform exclusively focused on sharing information amongst defenders and protectors of organizations.”
Blue Team Con 2023 programming includes talks by expert speakers from Microsoft, Meta, CrowdStrike, AWS, IBM and the Department of Homeland Security, on such topics as detecting and protecting against authentication proxy attacks, log management best practices, the use of cyber ranges and simulation to reduce risk, and handling “human malware” in the workplace.
In addition, topic-specific villages will provide flexible space for hands-on experiences and deep dives into areas of interest. Among the villages this year is one curated by Hak4Kidz, the first youth-based ethical hacking conference, featuring special activities designed for children ages 12-17.
The new pre-conference training day will feature exclusive eight-hour educational sessions, including:
- PDA Cybersecurity Board Training. Presented by the Private Directors Association and designed in collaboration with Blue Team Con, this program prepares current and aspiring directors of company boards for participation in decisions regarding cybersecurity practices.
- Advanced Memory Forensics. This workshop demonstrates the importance of including Volatile memory in your investigations by covering several attack methodologies seen in the field, as well as an overview of the most widely used memory forensics tool, Volatility, by one of its developers.
- Defending your Enterprise using Security Onion. This class will equip students with the necessary skills to properly place network sensors and investigate malicious activity using network and host data in enterprise environments. Participants will learn core analyst techniques needed to investigate alerts, determine the scope of an incident, and manage a case using the Security Onion 2 platform.
- ELK Hunting (Using Elastic Security to Stop Bad Actors). The ELK stack — Elasticsearch, Logstash and Kibana — is a well-known platform to store, search, analyze, and visualize data from any source, in any format, in real time. Participants will learn tips and tricks on using the ELK stack for effective security analytics and threat hunting.
- Ransomware Attack Simulation and Investigation for Blue Teamers. This workshop will provide hands-on training in performing a typical ransomware attack in a Windows lab environment, using PowerShell Empire. Participants will gain an understanding of the ransomware attack lifecycle, the tactics used in attacks, and how to detect, respond and ultimately prevent them.
“We are especially excited to add the new training day to Blue Team Con programming,” said Stel Valavanis, Blue Team Con cofounder and advisory board member. “By partnering with the Private Directors Association we were able to develop training for company boards just in time for the new SEC regulations that require it. And between the training sessions and talks, attendees have the opportunity to rack up as many as 12 continuing professional education (CPE) credits during the conference.”
In addition, a Capture the Flag competition will offer newbies and veterans alike the ability to show off their skills and win the admiration of their peers in this unique and fun learning challenge.
Tickets to Blue Team Con 2023 are $200, or $60 for students 18 and over; anyone under 18 may attend for free with adult supervision. Training sessions are ticketed separately and range from $300 to $650. Conference attendance is not required. Special room rates at the Fairmont Chicago Hotel are available for attendees.
