Dennis Hoy launches a new press campaign for 'Letters from Vietnam' this 2022
Memoir gives a glimpse of a soldier's life in Vietnam War through the eyes of a Silver Star recipient
ELEPHANT BUTTE, N.M., June 15, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Dennis Hoy walks down memory lane to share his experiences in the military and offer a different view of the Vietnam War in "Letters from Vietnam" (published by Xlibris).
This memoir of a Vietnam War army infantryman is based on the letters he wrote home to his new wife and his parents from 1967 to 1968. It gives an on-the-ground view of combat, and a soldier's life beyond the battlefield. This is a history, not written 55 years later, but a chronicle of day-by-day, week-by-week, month by month, through the eyes of a combat infantryman. It is the author's hope for readers to gain an intimate view of what life was like during the war.
"My hope is that, like coaching and painting, this book will leave people with a positive response. Some might be surprised by these stories and others may not," Hoy states. "I want to illustrate how the Vietnam War was similar to and different from more recent wars."
An excerpt from the book reads:
The difference between dying and surviving was usually a split second, not enough time for a warning shot, much less shouting "dong lee," whatever that meant. Yes, there were times we'd go down to a village. Sometimes the villages were pretty big, but it was just women and children. And no, we didn't shoot anybody that moved there. We had common sense and it was based on months of combat experience.
"Letters from Vietnam" was first released on September 2021. It can be purchased directly through https://www.xlibris.com/en/bookstore/bookdetails/834453-letters-from-vietnam.
