Entries Being Accepted for 2019 District Photographic Competition
ATLANTA (PRWEB) April 11, 2019 -- Professional Photographers of America (PPA) is now accepting entries for the District Level of this year's International Photographic Competition (IPC). Photographic competition challenges photographers to push their artistic and technical skills to the next level by creating and presenting their best work to a panel of judges. The competition is open to all photographers, but it also gives those who are members of PPA the opportunity to earn merits toward photography degrees.
The competition attracts image submissions from the best of the best in the photography industry from and urges others to push themselves to join their ranks. This year, for the first time, all District Competitions will take place on the same dates and in the same location, June 2-7, 2019 at PPA headquarters in downtown Atlanta, Georgia. Interested artists and observers unable to make it to Georgia for the competition can watch it unfold via live stream.
To enter the competition, photographers submit prints, electronic files and physical and/or digital albums to be judged by a panel of qualified experts. Competitors must designate the competition under which each image is being submitted. The three competitions include Artist, Photographic Open, and Wedding Competition (for the first time). Submissions will either merit or not merit and are judged against a standard of excellence using PPA's “12 elements of a merit image”. Images receiving a score of 80+ will earn an exhibition merit when they are submitted to the 2019 International Photographic Competition, which takes place August 18-23, 2019.
Those who don't earn merits don't have to leave empty-handed; critiques from judges will be available upon request as a way to help participants find areas of improvement and prepare for future photo competitions. “Photographic competition…definitely pushes you and causes you to step back from your work and…appraise it from a different eye and see what you can do better,” explains Ben Shirk, M.Photog.M.Artist.Cr., 2018 Grand Imaging Award winner and member of Team USA for the World Photographic Cup. Shirk’s path to those wins started with district competition. He says PPA’s photographic competitions help you learn “what you bring to the table that maybe other photographers aren’t doing so you can stand out even more in your everyday work too.”
Competitors must submit their images by 5 pm EST, May 8. Late registration (for an additional fee) runs until May 22. For more information on submission criteria and rules and how to enter visit PPA.com/Districts.
