FEI to Present at Power of Connections Symposium
MILWAUKEE, Wis. (PRWEB) August 14, 2018 -- FEI Behavioral Health, a social enterprise with a 35-year history and a leader in workforce resilience from EAP and organizational development to workplace violence prevention and crisis management, will present sessions at the upcoming Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) Power of Connections Symposium, running August 21-24, 2018 at the Atlanta Evergreen Marriott Conference Resort in Stone Mountain, Ga.
FEI Senior Director, Terri Howard, will be presenting the workshop, “Safety, Connection & Managing Emotions: Trauma Informed Crisis Intervention,” on August 23, 2018, at 10:15 a.m. EST and August 24, 2018, at 10:15 a.m. EST.
This session will discuss types of trauma, trauma informed care, and the best practice of incorporating this approach in order to prevent re-traumatization and the potential for violence. Through practical application and takeaways, participants will learn key principles of a trauma-informed approach and opportunities for building and enhancing crisis intervention teams.
Additionally, Howard will present the workshop, “Is Your Communication Affecting Behavior?” on August 23, 2018, at 1:45 p.m. EST and August 24, 2018, at 12:45 p.m. EST.
This session will explore how we communicate, trauma-informed approaches to communication and the communication tools at-risk individuals use to express themselves and meet their needs. Participants will explore strategies to incorporate a trauma-informed approach to interventions utilized, ultimately allowing them to communicate in ways that provide dignity and respect.
Howard is responsible for working with FEI corporate clients to ensure they are prepared for, can respond to and recover from a crisis incident. She also coordinates the people support and psychological first aid services for those impacted by crises, and is responsible for developing drills and exercises aimed at testing current plans and procedures. Over the years, Howard has contributed to several international standards and guidelines on crisis management and workplace violence prevention including ASIS, a global community of more than 38,000 security practitioners, and the FBI.
