Federal League Baseball To Launch New Pro Loop In 2023
Promises "Baseball, The Way It Used To Be"
DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla., July 12, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Federal League, Inc. officially announced the establishment of a new professional league to serve as an alternative to Major League Baseball. The new league, which will seek to begin with 12 teams in major cities across North America, is targeting April 2023 for its first Opening Day.
The new league, which was formally created at a meeting held, appropriately enough, on July 4, is committed to providing high level baseball, free of the gimmickry, scandals, and inflated prices that are currently plaguing Major League Baseball. The founders of the new league are united in their belief that, despite having the best and most athletic group of players in its history, Major League Baseball has become virtually unwatchable due to its increasingly slow pace, and the policies of management that inhibit fan enjoyment. Federal League Baseball intends to combat these issues by returning baseball to its roots.
The league, which will not be intended to serve as a developmental league, will seek to sign top talent at competitive salaries and play a more traditional, and faster paced, style of baseball than is currently being employed by MLB. Federal League Baseball will pursue signing distinguished college players, AAA and AA players that are not projected to be added to their organization's 40-man roster, former Major League players that might want an alternative to signing a minor league contract prior to Spring Training, and players from foreign leagues that desire an opportunity to play in a high quality league in North America. Player salaries are expected to average approximately $100,000 per player, with an expected league minimum of $75,000. A significant percentage of revenue generated by ticket sales will be used to pay all league personnel, players, coaches, and staff, bonuses, over and above their base salaries. Additionally, a championship bonus, approximately equal to the league's average salary, will be paid to every member of the team that wins the league title each year. In effect, players and, to a somewhat lesser extent, all league employees will be partners in the league's success.
With ticket and concession prices that will be much lower than any in Major League Baseball (and less than in many minor league parks, as well), Federal League Baseball will challenge the prevailing notion of what a day at the ballpark must consist. Federal League Baseball has already begun the process of negotiating national and regional broadcast contracts for its television, radio, and streaming rights. The new league is currently exploring options to place teams in such major markets as New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Montreal. In all, the league presently has 18 cities under consideration to fill its quota of 12 teams.
