Gilbane Building Company Promotes Kristin Protas to Vice President
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (PRWEB) October 04, 2018 -- Gilbane Building Company is proud to announce the promotion of Kristin Protas to a vice president. She has over 12 years of experience in contract negotiations, dispute resolution and proactive claim avoidance, and has been a trusted advisor to Gilbane’s executive leadership over the last four years. She was hired in 2014 as senior legal counsel with prior experience as a litigation associate at a boutique construction law firm and an associate counsel with a large DC metro area general contractor. In 2016, she was appointed Assistant Secretary for Gilbane Building Company and in 2017 graduated from Gilbane’s Executive Leadership Program at Babson College.
In her current role, Ms. Protas provides legal support to Gilbane’s Mid-Atlantic division, Central Midwest division and Human Resources department. During her tenure at Gilbane, she has been instrumental in various departmentwide strategic initiatives. She, along with her colleagues, revised the company’s suite of subcontracting forms. She also worked with numerous internal and external stakeholders to establish templates for design-build teaming agreements. Most recently, she helped procure and implement a new contract review software platform that will streamline internal review processes, in turn expediting contract execution.
“Since she joined Gilbane in 2014, Ms. Protas has become a respected and valued partner and resource to the business units that she supports, to Gilbane’s leadership team and to everyone within the Gilbane legal department,” said Brad Gordon, Gilbane Building Company’s senior vice president and general counsel. “I attribute Kristin’s success as an in-house lawyer at Gilbane to her sound judgment and to the unique mix of practicality and creativity that she uses to prevent and resolve the complex problems that frequently arise in our business. We are very fortunate to have her as part of our legal team.”
Ms. Protas is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a B.A. in English Language and Literature and received her J.D. from Brooklyn Law School. She is a well-respected leader in both the construction and legal industries. In 2017, she received a Diversity Fellowship from the American Bar Association Forum on Construction Law. She has spoken at the ABA Federal Procurement Institute, the ABA Forum on Construction Law, the Virginia State Bar’s 36th Annual Construction Law and Public Contracts Seminar, the Virginia State Bar’s Second Annual Federal Contracting Seminar for the Virginia State Bar, on topics including the False Claims Act, the Spearin doctrine and claim preparation. Ms. Protas is also actively involved with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS), spearheading Gilbane’s involvement in this year’s Light the Night event on the National Mall in Washington, DC.
