Hammes Company celebrates groundbreaking of Mohawk Valley Health System replacement hospital
MILWAUKEE (PRWEB) December 12, 2019 -- Hammes Company, the nation’s leading healthcare developer as ranked by Modern Healthcare’s Construction and Design Survey, participated in the December 12th groundbreaking ceremony of the Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS) replacement hospital in downtown Utica, New York.
Hammes Company has been a long-term partner for MVHS, first engaged to provide master facility planning and feasibility studies to evaluate the potential consolidation of the system’s existing campuses into a new urban campus. Hammes Company was subsequently engaged by MVHS to serve as project manager for the new 373-bed replacement hospital in downtown Utica and related ambulatory initiatives. The new medical center is expected to be 702,000 square feet (including the Central Utility Plant) and will include an emergency department, imaging and cardiology, interventional services, a birthing center, conference and meeting space, a parking garage and helipad.
As project manager, Hammes Company has managed the land acquisition process, selected the development team, supported MVHS leadership in their discussions with the Department of Health, and will oversee the design and construction of the entire program to ensure an on-time and on-budget completion. The architectural firm for the project is NBBJ. The engineer is Smith Seckman Reid (SSR) with Ramboll serving as civil engineer. Gilbane, Inc. is serving as construction manager.
“Hammes Company has enjoyed working with Mohawk Valley Health System over the last few years and shares the system’s excitement and sense of accomplishment in reaching today’s milestone,” said Mike Solak, Hammes Company regional vice president. “We look forward to working with our many partners in seeing the project through to completion.”
“Our vision for the new hospital campus is to promote patient health and optimize the caregiver work environment while simultaneously serving as a catalyst for the revitalization of downtown Utica,” said Robert Scholefield, MS, RN, executive vice president of Facilities and Real Estate for Mohawk Valley Health System. “We are grateful to the many partners who are helping us bring this state-of-the-art healthcare facility to life.”
