Ideum Releases Tangible Engine Version 2
Update Extends Support for Object Recognition on Ideum Touch Tables
CORRALES, N.M., Aug. 13, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Ideum released a significant update to their innovative Tangible Engine software development kit. Bundled as an upgrade option for Ideum multitouch tables, Tangible Engine is the first object recognition package designed for projected capacitive touch displays. Tangible Engine allows design agencies, museums, software developers, and others using Ideum tables to enrich their multitouch applications with a series of tangible objects, which opens the door to user experiences that are both memorable and awe-inspiring. Tangible Engine 2 extends the capabilities of the previous version with a series of improved features. In addition, the software package greatly simplifies the authoring process for developers.
"The new version of Tangible Engine is the culmination of years of experience with tangible interfaces. The improvements are from our own experience in authoring but also from feedback from leading design firms who use Tangible Engine," noted Ideum Founder and Creative Director Jim Spadaccini.
Tangible Engine has been rebuilt to utilize a more flexible and modular service model that comes packaged with all Ideum touch tables. Developers can simply connect to the service to take advantage of Tangible Engine's object recognition capabilities. Not only does this simplify the integration of tangibles into new applications, it also allows developers to easily access future updates to the engine without modifying existing projects.
Like its predecessor, the new Tangible Engine package includes interfaces for QT/QTQuick and Unity3D, which have been streamlined to take advantage of the new service. Additionally, developers can easily create custom bindings for using Tangible Engine on other software development platforms. The package also includes the Visualizer, the Configurator tangible trainer, and demo applications to streamline advanced development requirements. The updated documentation also details how to upgrade existing projects to Tangible Engine 2. The Version 2 upgrade is free to current owners of Tangible Engine.
Also featured in the new release is better tracking fidelity, which is smoother, more precise, with improved rotation functionality. Tangible Engine 2 also supports customization for timeout, sensitivity, and touch point recovery, as well as recognition for up to 20 tangible patterns (9 come built into the software).
Tangible User Interface (TUI) is an emerging area of design that allows for more memorable user experiences. Now, Tangible Engine further streamlines authoring for object recognition functionality on Ideum touch tables. The Tangible Engine SDK extends the functionality of Ideum's touch table systems to more fully optimize the use of the integrated 3M projected capacitive touch technology and LG commercial displays.
