KALAMAZOO, Mich., Sept. 26, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Kalamazoo Valley Museum Hosts Chemistry Day on Oct. 13
The Kalamazoo Valley Museum's 32nd Chemistry Day takes place from noon to 4 p.m. on October 13. Local chemists from colleges, universities, and companies will come together to explore with visitors why "Chemistry Is Out of This World!"
Participants of all ages will enjoy learning the basics of chemistry in a fun and exciting way. Co-sponsored by the Kalamazoo Valley Museum and the Kalamazoo Section of the American Chemical Society, Chemistry Day is part of National Chemistry Week. This year's national theme, "Chemistry Is Out of This World," has a special connection with the Museum's space science programs and the planetarium. Museum staff will be "Cooking a Comet," and planetarium shows at 1, 2, and 3 p.m. will be free.
Chemists from Kalamazoo Valley Community College, Western Michigan University, and the Kalexsyn, Perrigo, Kalsec, and Pfizer companies will be conducting hands-on experiments in mixing slime, learning how to clean pennies, discovering how objects glow in the dark, finding out how volcanoes erupt, and watching liquid nitrogen and dry ice demonstrations. New this year: the chemistry of the stars, invisible light, decreased atmospheres in space, and medicine in space. Teachers are encouraged to come and get educational materials and lessons to share with their students.
The Kalamazoo Valley Museum is operated by Kalamazoo Valley Community College and governed by its Board of Trustees. Admission to the Kalamazoo Valley Museum is free.
