Kennywood's Holiday Lights Voted Among Top Theme Park Events
Kennywood Park's wintertime event, Holiday Lights, was once again voted among the 10 Best Theme Park Holiday Events by voters of USA TODAY's 10Best.com competition. The holiday event continues on select nights through December 30.
WEST MIFFLIN, Pa., Dec. 13, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- A nationwide poll conducted by USA TODAY confirms what many Pittsburghers already knew: when looking for family-friendly fun this time of year, it's very hard to top Kennywood's Holiday Lights!
Holiday Lights was voted by the public as one of the country's Best Theme Park Holiday Events, finishing tenth out of twenty nominees selected for the 10Best.com online vote conducted over the past month. With the brilliance of nearly 2 million lights around the park, Pennsylvania's tallest Christmas tree (100 feet), and the new Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer 4D Experience among the main attractions, Holiday Lights earned the recognition of voters near and far for the fourth time in as many contests held by 10Best.com.
"We want to thank all those who took the time to vote for Holiday Lights," says Kennywood General Manager Jerome Gibas. "Our Team Members put in many hours to bring Holiday Lights to life, and it's rewarding to see our efforts recognized."
Along with the stunning displays, visitors to Holiday Lights can find a petting zoo, a model train display covering nearly 3,000 square feet, live shows and entertainment, and many of Kennywood's signature family and children's rides, including the Thomas Town at Kennywood themed land, decorated in the spirit of the season.
With just two weekends to go until Christmas, Kennywood kicks off the home stretch towards Holiday Lights with a special visit by fan favorite Pittsburgh Dad on Friday, December 13 to perform the popular 'Twas the Night Before Christmas in a way only he can. On Sunday, the newly crowned Miss Pennsylvania USA 2020, Victoria Piekut, takes the stage to recite the beloved poem.
And next week, Kennywood's first ever winter racing competition, the Run Santa Run 5K, will see runners and walkers dress as Kris Kringle, St. Nick, Papa Noel and Father Christmas on a race course in and around Kennywood! Participants in the December 21 run/walk get their own Santa outfit to wear for the race, plus a complimentary ticket for Holiday Lights.
Kennywood's Holiday Lights is open from 5 – 9 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays before Christmas, plus nightly December 26 – 30, weather permitting. To see a full list of activities, including schedules, discounts and more, visit http://www.kennywood.com/holidaylights.
