Navy Memorial to Host Memorial Day Wreath-Laying Ceremony
The United States Navy Memorial will host a Memorial Day Wreath-Laying Ceremony on Monday, May 30th at 1:30 pm ET in honor and memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. This event will take place on Navy Memorial Plaza at 701 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20004. The ceremony will also be live streamed for those who are unable to attend in person.
WASHINGTON, May 25, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The United States Navy Memorial will host a Memorial Day Wreath-Laying Ceremony on Monday, May 30th at 1:30 pm ET in honor and memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. This event will take place on Navy Memorial Plaza at 701 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20004.
The ceremony will begin with the arrival of the Official Party, the Presentation of Colors, the National Anthem, and an invocation. The Navy Memorial's President and CEO Rear Admiral Frank Thorp IV, USN (Ret.), will then provide opening remarks.
"The Navy Memorial is the perfect place to honor the heroes who gave their lives defending our freedom," said Rear Admiral Frank Thorp. "I am honored to be creating a space where the American public can recognize their incredible service and sacrifice with us once again."
The wreath-laying will take place about twenty minutes into the ceremony. This event will also feature the U.S. Navy Band and U.S. Navy Ceremonial Guard. "Taps" will be played in honor of our nation's fallen service members.
Attendees will have an opportunity to take photos with the Memorial Day wreath and Lone Sailor statue following the ceremony, as well as spend time inside the recently reopened Navy Memorial Visitor Center adjacent to the plaza.
This Navy Memorial is directly accessible through the Archives-Navy Memorial metro stop on the green and yellow lines. It is also a 10-minute walk from the Federal Triangle stop, which operates on the orange, silver, and blue lines.
