New Emedco Drinking Fountain Lockout Device Installed at Park School
Buffalo-based business partners with local school for COVID-19 preparation
BUFFALO, N.Y., July 23, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Park School of Buffalo has partnered with Emedco, a national safety company headquartered in Buffalo, to install an innovative solution to restrict drinking fountain use on their campus as a health and safety measure in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
With the school's summer recess nearly half complete and the recent education guidelines put forth by New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo to reopen schools, local administrators are challenged to take drastic measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus, especially in high traffic areas in schools including water fountains. This new device provides a bright red physical barrier that will completely cover the fountain spout and lock in place, something Lisa Conrad, head of the Park School Safe School Advisory Committee, was looking for in order to help prepare the school for reopening.
"A successful year relies on evaluating all areas of possible exposure and mitigating risk as much as possible," Conrad said. "Water fountains are a prime transmission area and these lockout devices are the most effective tools that we have found to secure our fountains."
While the easy-to-install tamper-resistant polypropylene device will prevent water fountain usage, it won't prevent water flow to a bottle-filling station that might also be connected to the water fountain so staff and students can remain hydrated.
"This is a simple, clean solution for preventing the spread of infectious diseases in schools through stopping the use of water fountains," said Paul Schneeberger, the product manager behind the device. "Whether preschool or high school students, this will help keep people safe."
Conrad also noted that other measures have been taken to prepare campus for reopening with the help of Emedco, including stocking up on hand sanitizer and masks and installing wall and floor labels and restroom signage that will remind students to practice increased hand hygiene, maintain safe distance in common areas and regulate traffic flow in one way areas.
"At Park, we know that in order for learning to be lasting, students need to be healthy and feel safe," Conrad said. "These products help us care for the physical well being of our faculty and students, and in turn foster an environment where the whole child is cared for and ready for meaningful, rigorous learning."
Emedco has sold more than 3,000 devices to schools and districts nationwide.
