OSHA Sponsors "Safe + Sound Week" to Promote Workplace Safety Awareness
DUBLIN, Calif. (PRWEB) July 03, 2018 -- The OSHA Training Institute Education Center at Chabot-Las Positas Community College District, the only OSHA authorized OTI Education Center headquartered in Northern California, is inviting employers and workers to participate in Safe + Sound Week, a nationwide safety event that takes place during the week of August 13-19, 2018. The focus of Safe + Sound Week, sponsored by OSHA in partnership with hundreds of businesses and industry organizations, is to raise awareness and understanding of the value of safety and health programs that include management leadership, worker participation and a systematic approach to finding and fixing workplace hazards.
“An effective safety and health program can proactively identify and manage workplace hazards before they cause injury or illness, improving your organization’s sustainability while boosting worker morale and your bottom line,” says Cari Elofson, Assistant Director of the OSHA Training Institute Education Center at Chabot-Las Positas Community College District. “Participating in Safe + Sound Week can help you launch a safety and health program in your organization or expand and energize your current program.”
Organizations of any size or in any industry looking for an opportunity to show their commitment to the safety of their workers, customers or supply chain partners are encouraged to participate. The first step is to select and plan activities and events to conduct at your workplace. Suggestions for employers and managers include delivering a clear safety and health message, publicizing your commitment to safety and health at your workplace, engaging your workers by showing that you are listening to their safety concerns and recognizing workers or teams for contributions to workplace safety.
Safe + Sound Week provides a great opportunity to establish or fine tune procedures for collecting and reviewing information about known or potential workplace hazards, investigating the root causes of hazards and prioritizing hazard controls. Visit OSHA’s activities webpage to learn more about how to participate in Safe + Sound Week. Ideas for planning and promoting your activities and events are available here. Following your organization’s participation in Safe + Sound Week, you can download a certificate and web badge to recognize your organization and your workers.
The OSHA Training Institute Education Center urges employers and workers to participate in Safe + Sound Week as part of a renewed commitment to raising hazard awareness and improving workplace safety and health.
