Online School Celebrates Seniors With Traditional Graduation Ceremony
WOODS CROSS, Utah (PRWEB) June 01, 2019 -- Utah Connections Academy, a statewide, online public school that serves about 1,200 students in kindergarten through 12th grade, will celebrate its senior class later today with a traditional in-person graduation ceremony in Salt Lake City. The school’s largest graduating class to date, with 126 seniors, will travel from all corners of the state to celebrate their collective achievements.
The ceremony will begin at 4 p.m. at Lifetime Activities Center at SLCC, 4700 S. Redwood Road, in Salt Lake City.
“There is nothing more fulfilling as an educator than to see student goals transform into student achievements, because we all know that those successes never come without hard work and commitment,” Erin Taylor, Utah Connections Academy principal, said. “Graduation is a special time, and we look forward to hearing about the great things our new graduates accomplish in the future.”
Utah Connections Academy’s graduation ceremony will include addresses from salutatorian Jarence Adair of Tooele, and valedictorian Veneita Bustin of Salt Lake City, who earned a $25,000 scholarship to Weber State University.
Adair will study civil engineering at the University of Utah, a path she chose after having a number of discussions with her dad about the importance of developing infrastructure and solid foundations.
“Civil engineers help define a good society,” Adair said. “I want to be part of that.”
Bustin, an avid traveler, has plans to visit Iceland and Australia over the summer before beginning her criminal justice studies at Weber State in the fall. She also intends to study abroad.
“Our graduates have diverse plans for the next chapters of their lives, including military service, entering the workforce and continuing their education,” Taylor said. “Regardless of their chosen paths, we can say with confidence that these self-disciplined young adults are prepared to tackle the challenges in front of them and find success for themselves.”
Utah Connections Academy families enroll for a variety of reasons, including a need or desire for a flexible schedule, a need for a safe environment, or to accommodate health issues. The school’s annual Parent Satisfaction Survey revealed that a majority of families chose UCA because they were looking for greater flexibility. Others simply wanted a change from their neighborhood school, or desired a learning environment that they felt was safer.
Enrollment for the 2019-20 school year is going on now. More information about the school, its personalized approach to learning, and the enrollment process is available at http://www.UtahConnectionsAcademy.com or by calling (801) 298-6660.
