RBMA Awards Scholarships to Promising New Radiology Leaders
FAIRFAX, Va. (PRWEB) March 26, 2019 -- For 2019, the Radiology Business Management Association has awarded a record three Bob Luther Emerging Leader Travel Scholarships—the most ever in a single year for the association. These highly competitive scholarships provide free conference registration and up to $1,000 in travel funds to allow the recipient to attend an RBMA national conference. First awarded in 2007, the scholarships honor former RBMA president and dedicated member Bob Luther, who was passionate about bringing new emerging leaders into the organization. He is remembered as a man of honor and quiet humor. Bob passed away in December 2006.
Typically, one to two scholarships are awarded each year, but in 2018, the RBMA hosted a very successful silent auction fundraiser at its 50th anniversary celebration in San Diego, California. Twenty leading radiology vendor organizations generously donated items to the auction and more than $5,000 was raised, which allowed the scholarship program to be expanded.
RBMA created the scholarship to commemorate Bob Luther’s mission to identify, guide and support those individuals who can contribute to the board of directors, and ultimately the future of the RBMA and the profession itself. Recognizing that cost is a barrier for many young up-and-coming radiology leaders who want to attend a national business conference and network with leaders in their field, the scholarships allow RBMA members who are first-time practice managers or those interested in one day becoming a practice manager a chance to experience the value of RBMA. To qualify, a member must be in good standing and have been unable to attend any of the RBMA’s educational conferences in at least three years. Many have never been able to attend.
The scholarships draw numerous high-quality applicants. Winners are chosen based on their experience, achievements and reasons for wanting to further their career in radiology. Each applicant must also provide a personal reference. This year’s exceptional scholarship recipients are:
- Emily Myatt — Advanced Radiology, S.C., Moline, Ill.
- Taryn Phan — Radiology Associates of Hawaii, Honolulu, Hawaii
- Schaeffer Smith — Comprehensive Radiology Services, PLLC, Hattiesburg, Miss.
All three recipients will be attending RBMA’s PaRADigm the leading annual conference for radiology business professionals, held April 14-17, 2019, at the historic Broadmoor resort and conference center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The application period for next year’s scholarship will open in summer 2019. Details will be posted on the RBMA’s website. Visit rbma.org to learn more about the scholarship and past recipients.
