Reset.com Launches; First "Two Days a Week" Weight Loss Program
Reset aims to transform the weight loss industry with a novel, science-based approach.
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 28, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Reset (Reset.com), a technology startup based in San Francisco, announces the launch of the first "two days a week" weight loss program. A first-of-its-kind in the $70B U.S. weight loss industry, Reset's program is based on a scientifically-validated intermittent fasting technique and requires members to change how they eat just two days a week.
"The weight loss industry hasn't fundamentally changed in 20 years, despite rising rates of obesity and convincing research showing that daily calorie restriction diets almost never work," explained Jack Pinto, Reset's Founder and CEO. "The market leaders, like Weight Watchers and Noom, expect busy people to watch and change what they eat seven days a week. I, like most American dieters, had tried numerous daily restriction diets over the years. While I often lost weight at first, I found that I never had the willpower to follow strict rules every day. Feeling hungry 24/7 was too miserable and I inevitably gained the weight back."
Reset's novel weight loss program relies instead on a well-researched form of intermittent fasting called intermittent energy restriction (IER). Under this protocol, a person eats normally most days of the week, without making any effort to restrict calories. On two or three low-calorie days spread throughout the week, they restrict calories aggressively, typically to around 25% of their maintenance level.
"You can think of Reset as a Weight Watchers-like program that you only have to follow two days a week," says Pinto.
The program guides members through two or three weekly low-calorie days (or "Reset Days" in the company's lingo), striving to make them as simple and convenient as possible. Reset sends members a low-calorie protein shake that serves as a filling breakfast or mid-day snack. Members use the included Reset app, available for Android and iPhone, to plan a low-calorie lunch and dinner. Based on user preferences and eating style, the app suggests new and diverse meal ideas each week, ranging from family-friendly recipes to frozen dinners from the grocery store to packaged Starbucks salads. The app emphasizes convenient food options that are satiating despite a low calorie content.
Reset's program provides personalized guidance and support through the app over the course of a member's weight loss journey. "Our dynamic in-app content helps members work toward the real psychological change and habit development necessary for sustainable results," says Pinto. In addition, Reset members have unlimited access to a personal coach available through in-app chat.
"Eating freely most days of the week and still losing weight was absolutely life-changing for me," says Pinto. "I've completely changed my relationship with food. Our goal at Reset is help others experience the same long-term results and mindshift change."
